Al is currently studying law at the University of Melbourne and has had Type 1 Diabetes since 2013. With a keen interest in public health and social entrepreneurship, Al is keen to take YLC to new heights this year and beyond.
Natalia has been a member since May 2013, and continues to provide invaluable insights and assistance with social media marketing. Outside the committee, she conducted research at WEHI. She was diagnosed with T1D at 20.
CHARITY LIAISON / Treasurer
Danielle has been with YLC since January 2014. Beyond YLC, she works in health economics and policy at the Grattan Institute. Dani has family with T1D, and aims to promote improved support systems for people with T1D.
Eliza currently studies a Masters of Urban Planning at Unimelb and has had type1 diabetes since 2009. With a strong interest in mental health associated with type 1 diabetes, Eliza is keen to expand YLC’s network to foster greater support for those living with T1D.
Betty is a young professional working in the not-for-profit sector. Diagnosed in 2016, she has an interest in advocacy, health, education and public policy. Betty joined YLC to advocate for improved access to health services for young adults with T1D.
Sam was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 13, and is currently studying Arts/Law at Monash. He hopes to help youth with diabetes find confidence in their day-to-day and educate people about the difficulties of travelling with diabetes. He also has a keen desire to help fundraise for T1D research.
Nishadee joined YLC in April 2015. She teaches yoga and studies a Masters in Public Health at the University of Melbourne. She is personally connected to the cause through a friend with T1D, and wants to help raise public awareness for the condition.
Olivia connected with YLC in 2016. Outside the committee, Olivia works as a Registered Nurse and she was diagnosed with T1D in 2011. She is passionate about raising awareness about the importance of T1D research.
Naim Kurt has been a member of the YLC since 2015. He works in journalism and was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 19. Naim is particularly interested in raising awareness of T1D and associated mental health issues in the community.
Julia joined YLC in 2015. She is currently studying Fine Art, and enjoys playing and listening to music in her time off. Julia was diagnosed with T1D at 10, and is passionate about highlighting the connection between T1D and mental health issues.
Justin joined YLC in February 2015. He is now studying in Geelong and runs our Type One Tastings group in the region. He was diagnosed with T1D more than 20 years ago.
Ryan has been designing content for YLC since February 2014. He runs his own design practice and is personally connected to the cause through family. Using his communication skills he aims to increase T1D awareness to a larger audience.
Lewis has been a member of the YLC since July 2013. Lewis works as a lawyer and enjoys playing and watching soccer. Lewis is personally connected with T1D through family. Lewi wants to educate people to recognise and better understand the risks of hypoglycaemia.
Bethany joined the team in May, 2015. She was diagnosed with T1D at 19, and currently studies Law / Global Studies at ACU. She hopes to raise awareness about T1D in the wider community.
Melissa has been with YLC since February 2014. Now working in Arnhem Land in the NT, she is an experienced medical professional and continues to provide support and guidance to the team.
Ashlee joined the YLC May 2013 and currently serves as a committee member. Ashlee works in law and government at the Australian Government Solicitor. She was diagnosed with T1D when she was 22 and joined YLC to connect with other people in their 20s living with the condition.
Craig joined YLC in February 2014. He currently works for Hickory Group. Craig’s personal connection is through family and he joined the committee to help raise awareness and support T1D research.
Karlie joined in May 2013. She works in communications for the Catholic Education Office. Karlie was diagnosed with T1D at age 14 and is on the committee to help raise awareness and funds for the cause.
